You do have to purchase your tickets or travel pass in advance though as you cannot buy tickets on the buses, trams, trains or metro and you must validate it on the bus or tram and before you get on the metro or train.

Buses and trolley buses are another easy way to get around beautiful Budapest. There are over 150 bus routes and 15 trolley bus routes criss-crossing Budapest and taking you to every nook and cranny of the city. The buses are blue and the trolley buses are red.
